NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Gilead Sciences Inc. Thursday said Phase III
ARIES-1 and ARIES-2 studies of Letairis showed improved exercise capacity in
patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension functional Class II or III
symptoms.
The ARIES-2 study also showed a delay in clinical worsening compared to
patients treated with a placebo, the compamny said.
In the company's ARIES-E study, 43 of the 361 patients who enrolled in the
study discontinued before completing the 48 weeks of treatment. This includes 14
patients who died.
Gilead said that the patients who discontinued had a more severe disease at
baseline.
Shares of Gildead closed Wednesday at 453.57. The stock is up 30% over the
past 52 weeks.
