BERLIN -(Dow Jones)- The German car market is expected to total up to 2.9 million vehicles in 2010, the president of Germany's Association Of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers VDIK said Tuesday.
Speaking at an industry conference in Berlin, Volker Lange dismissed fears over a steep market slump next year following the end of the German scrapping incentive scheme, noting that fleet sales are expected to recover.
Germany is Europe's largest single auto market.
According to previous statements, VDIK expects new car sales of around 3.7 million in Germany this year, fueled by the scrapping incentive scheme.
In 2008, about 3.09 million new cars were registered in Germany. Lange described a market volume of 3 million as a "normal level."
