Additional sites to enhance wireless
network
GTA announced today plans to expand its 4G LTE network to reach
95 percent of areas where island residents live, work, and play by
September 2015. The company first launched LTE (Long Term
Evolution) in October 2013. As part of plans to further improve LTE
coverage this year, GTA is adding 21 new sites to include one on
Andersen Airforce Base in Yigo.
Recent investments in the network allow GTA to offer wider
network coverage, faster wireless internet speeds, and provide a
broader selection of premium LTE smartphones for customers. With
LTE, wireless subscribers can browse the Internet, watch videos,
and download music and applications faster than ever before.
Robert Haulbrook, GTA president and chief executive officer,
says, “We continue to see a large demand for wireless data. With
the introduction of new technology like LTE, we are able to deliver
better call quality, fewer dropped calls, and faster data speeds
when customers are away from home. At GTA, our mission is to expand
coverage, drive investments, and deliver Guam’s most advanced
wireless experience to island residents.”
In 2014, GTA successfully acquired spectrum to increase capacity
and internet speeds on the 4G LTE network. In addition to this, the
company is building additional 3G sites for this year alone and is
investing over $20 million in various network improvements for
2015.
Haulbrook says, “At GTA, we value our customers and want to
provide a superior and consistent user experience. We are always
looking for opportunities to enhance our network to meet the
long-term needs of our customers. Investing in our network and
infrastructure is our way of accomplishing this goal.”
GTA was the first wireless company on Guam to introduce
smartphones in September 2006 and is currently Guam’s market leader
in smartphones.
