GEICO will honor five government employees as GEICO Public Service Award
winners for 2007 for their on-the-job dedication and community
contributions at a special recognition ceremony today at the National
Archives in Washington, D.C.
This is the 28th year that GEICO is honoring
federal employees for the work they do as well as their community
involvement in the fields of physical rehabilitation, traffic safety and
accident prevention, substance abuse prevention and treatment, and fire
safety.
GEICO Chairman Tony Nicely announced that the 2007 Public Service Award
honorees are:
Joseph W. Hafner, safety and occupational health specialist
at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, for his work in traffic safety
and accident prevention.
Joseph R. Baker, deputy fire chief at Fort Campbell in
Kentucky, for his work in fire prevention and safety.
Jennie Allies, a federal employee of the Northern Cheyenne
Service Unit, for her work in physical rehabilitation in rural
Lame Deer, Montana.
Ileen Wong, a retired nuclear director for crane and
rigging operations at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, for her work in
physical rehabilitation.
Gloria Jean Prince, education specialist for the U.S. Army
Substance Abuse Program in Korea, for her work in substance abuse
prevention and treatment.
GEICO will present each of the five winners with a $2,500 cash award and
an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the ceremonies.
“We are so inspired by this year’s
recipients,” said Nicely. “They
make it their job to volunteer in their communities, as well as attend
to their many responsibilities on the job. They are a reminder of the
individual and collective accomplishments of federal employees who serve
not only their communities, but their fellow Americans. I am delighted
to congratulate these five very deserving Public Service Award winners.”
Daryl Glover, GEICO’s senior federal liaison
for the Public Service Awards program, discussed the selection process. “Since
1980 GEICO has presented commendable federal employees with the GEICO
Public Service Awards, and we have recognized over 125 persons making
valuable contributions to their communities. GEICO was founded in 1936
to provide insurance services to federal employees and their families,
and it is in this spirit that we recognize these five individuals for
their exceptional work.”
GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is the fourth-largest
private passenger auto insurer in the United States.
