LONDON--Mexican precious metals producer Fresnillo PLC (FRES.LN)
said Thursday that the milling plant at its San Julián mine has
been processing ore and the leaching plant has been operating
normally for a week after the completion of the mine's first-phase
development project.
The company is now constructing a flotation plant, which marks
the second phase of the mine project. The flotation plant is
forecast to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of this year.
Fresnillo, the world's largest primary silver producer and
Mexico's second-largest gold producer, is spending $515 million to
develop the San Julian silver and gold project. Once fully
operational, the mine is forecast to produce an average of 10.3
million ounces of silver and 44,000 ounces of gold a year.
