PHOENIX (AP) - Privately held Freedom Wireless Inc. said Wednesday it has
settled a patent infringement suit against VeriSign Inc., the company that runs
some of the Internet's core systems.
Freedom Wireless said the companies plan to file a final consent judgment
where they agree that judgment may be entered for Freedom Wireless and against
VeriSign.
The company added that VeriSign agreed to pay it a "confidential amount of
money" and to transfer 10 U.S. and 12 foreign patents and other intellectual
property rights. In exchange, Freedom granted VeriSign a limited license to its
patents.
A representative for Mountain View, Calif.-based VeriSign could not
immediately be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
The patents related to prepaid wireless systems.
