Five Dollar Donations Add Up to Record $8.5 Million
Lee National Denim Day Fundraising Efforts Surpass Goal as Nine-Year Total for
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Reaches $52 Million
MERRIAM, Kan., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Lee Jeans announced a new fundraising
record for Lee National Denim Day. More than $8.5 million was donated by
program participants on October 8, 2004. The donation submission period has
officially ended for the 2004 campaign.
"When we set the 2004 goal at $7.5 million, we were optimistic, but we didn't
anticipate we would surpass our goal by more than one million dollars," said
Kathy Collins, vice president of marketing for Lee Jeans. "Year after year we
are overwhelmed by the passion people have for this program." For the ninth year in a row, participants at more than 27,500 companies
nationwide wore their jeans to work in exchange for a $5 donation to the Susan
G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In the process, participants broke a record
for single-day fundraising and brought the nine-year total to $52 million. One
hundred percent of every dollar raised through Lee National Denim Day goes
directly to the Komen Foundation for supporting breast cancer research,
education, screening and treatment programs that might otherwise go unfunded.
Boosted by 2004 record-breaking results, Lee Jeans is now shooting for a goal
of $10 million dollars to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Lee National
Denim Day scheduled for October 7, 2005. For more information on the program,
