BEIJING--Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Chinese joint-venture has finished development of its first version of Windows 10 customized for Chinese government use, the company said Tuesday.

The government version of the software reopens the large Chinese state sector market to Microsoft, after China dropped the company's newer products from government procurement lists following disclosures by former U.S. National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden about U.S. surveillance.

The software still needs to go through Chinese government review before it can be relisted on government procurement lists.

The Chinese government version of Windows 10 was developed by a joint venture between Microsoft and Chinese state-owned company China Electronics Technology Group. The joint venture, controlled by CETC, was announced in 2015.

CETC is a Chinese state-owned company that develops technology for Chinese military and civilian use.
