Federated Wireless, which is developing scalable wireless infrastructure solutions to extend the access of carrier networks, announced its support for the new Report and Order by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding Spectrum Access System (SAS) for the 3550-3700 MHz band (3.5 GHz band).

Spectrum is the founding ingredient for all wireless infrastructure systems and is highly valued because it's finite. Historically there are two main types of Spectrum: one for carriers, which have exclusive licenses, and one for Wi-Fi systems in unlicensed bands. The FCC’s Report and Order (R&O) outlines a new spectrum sharing innovation technology. Spectrum sharing aims to create a balance between the low cost and versatility of unlicensed spectrum and the quality and predictability of licensed spectrum.

“This is a significant moment for Federated Wireless and for the industry,” said Iyad Tarazi, Chief Executive Officer of Federated Wireless. “The opening of the 3550-3700 band will lead to the development of new technology and create an array of new business models that will revolutionize the wireless industry. After several years of development and testing, we’re launching a Dynamic Spectrum Access System (SAS). Federated Wireless’s SAS leverages a dedicated network of sensors, manages interference, optimizes usage of spectrum resources, and provides an essential level of security for incumbent users of spectrum.”

“We applaud the action taken by the FCC for adopting a three-tier spectrum sharing network, and also recognize the significant level of collaboration achieved by industry groups and members of the Wireless Innovation Forum, Google, and various government agencies,” Tarazi continued. “Their collective work and recommendations framed the Commission’s action and helped the R&O become a reality. We look forward to the continued collaboration of these groups in achieving the Commissioner’s vision of the 3.5 GHz band as the innovation band.”

Federated Wireless is a subsidiary of Allied Minds (LSE:ALM), an innovative U.S. science and technology development and commercialization company.
