ExxonMobil employees and retirees raised a record $13.41 million
for the United Way of Greater Houston during its 2013 community
campaign, which was the largest amount raised by the company since
its annual campaigns began in 1952.
“We are so grateful for our dear friends at ExxonMobil for their
extraordinary generosity and support of the United Way of Greater
Houston and our community,” said Anna M. Babin, president and CEO
of United Way of Greater Houston. “Their incredible leadership and
commitment sets an example for us all and truly helps families
thrive, children achieve academic success, seniors remain
independent and individuals rebuild their lives.”
The contributions support the work of the United Way Greater
Houston, which includes helping families gain financial stability,
making sure students achieve academic success and giving seniors
the support they need to remain independent. United Way Bright
Beginnings, for example, is an innovative early education program
designed to support children from lower-income families. The
program’s objective is to help children achieve social, emotional,
physical and cognitive milestones to be able to enter school ready
to succeed.
In addition to raising money, employees and retirees volunteered
nearly 40,000 hours to support United Way and its affiliate
agencies in a wide range of programs. “I congratulate our current
and retired employees for their efforts to support the greater
Houston community through the United Way,” said Neil Duffin,
president of ExxonMobil Development Company. “Campaign leaders and
volunteers work throughout the year to raise awareness of the
United Way and find innovative ways to raise money to fund the many
programs that give hope to the people of Houston. Making positive
contributions to society is central to the way we do business, and
our partnership with the United Way is an important part of that
commitment.”
ExxonMobil employees also donated money and volunteered their
time for many other nonprofit organizations in the Houston area.
This is consistent with the company’s commitment to support
programs that help improve the quality of life in the greater
Houston community.
