Sessions included drone technology demonstration and a roundtable discussion about the Internet’s impact on the energy industry

Emerging technologies from drone robotics to smart home devices were on display Tuesday at Exelon Corporation’s third Innovation Expo, an event aimed at bringing employees and outside experts together to explore how to apply creative solutions to complicated business challenges.

Building on the last expo’s theme of “data driven decisions,” the event focused on the “Internet of things,” a growing field that explores ways to leverage the connectivity of the Internet with a wide range of data devices, including everything from smart thermostats to wifi-connected smart appliances.

“Exelon is making investments in technologies that improve services for our customers and employees,” Exelon President and CEO Chris Crane said. “We continue to encourage employees across the company to use innovative solutions to drive best-in-class performance and create value for our customers and the communities we serve. The Innovation Expo is a great opportunity for us to celebrate employee innovations and to continue to learn from others in the industry.”

As part of the expo, experts from Nest Labs, General Electric, Tesla and other companies presented innovative technologies and discussed how they are using data devices and the Internet to improve people’s lives and the energy industry, from smart houses to electric vehicles. More than 500 Exelon employees attended the all-day event held at M&T Bank Stadium.

The expo also highlighted innovative ways Exelon has deployed technology to improve processes throughout the enterprise. For example, the company has deployed robotics at its nuclear facilities and partnered with startup companies to leverage Google Glass and other wearable technology that will improve efficiency and maximize safety. “Internet of things” technologies are also being evaluated to secure company resources, optimize worker productivity and streamline warehouse operations.
