LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Net profit rose 12 percent at The Walt Disney Co. in the
fourth quarter, led by growth at its ESPN cable channel, more visitors at theme
parks, and increased sales of consumer products, the media conglomerate reported
Thursday.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- McClatchy Co. pinpointed the size of a previously
announced accounting charge at $1.37 billion on Thursday, pushing the newspaper
publishing company to a loss in the third quarter.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Newspaper publisher Lee Enterprises Inc. said
Thursday its fourth-quarter profit nearly doubled versus a year ago with much of
the gain attributed to one-time benefits of tax changes and other issues.
FRAZER, Pa. (AP) -- Biotechnology company Cephalon Inc. said Thursday it
swung to a third-quarter loss on lower revenue and a hefty reserve to settle a
government probe.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) -- Sapient Corp., a business and technology services
consultancy, said Thursday profit surged 50 percent in the third quarter, helped
by solid growth in service revenue.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Radio station and billboard advertising leader Clear
Channel Communications Inc. said Thursday third-quarter earnings surged 51
percent, as outdoor advertising revenue continued to grow sharply.
