ATLANTA (AP) -- UPS, the world's largest shipping carrier, reported Tuesday
a 3.7 percent increase in third-quarter profit on a modest rise in sales. But it
said fourth-quarter growth will be its slowest in four years due largely to weak
U.S. retail sales.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Shares of online DVD rental pioneer Netflix Inc.
climbed more than 8 percent Tuesday as its third-quarter results won rave
reviews on Wall Street.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- MDU Resources Group Inc., an energy, mining and
construction company, said Tuesday its third-quarter profit nearly doubled,
partially as a result of a $91.5 million gain related to the sale of domestic
independent power production assets.
HOUSTON (AP) -- Cooper Industries Ltd. said Tuesday that third-quarter
earnings surged 34 percent, surpassing Wall Street expectations, as revenue
increased despite weakness in the key U.S. residential housing and motor
vehicles markets.
RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- Twin Disc Inc., which makes power transmission
equipment for boats, said Tuesday its fiscal first-quarter earnings climbed 39
percent on higher demand for marine and propulsion products to the commercial
marine and large yacht markets.
WAYZATA, Minn. (AP) -- TCF Financial Corp.'s profit dipped 10 percent in the
third quarter as attracting deposits grew more expensive and more borrowers
failed to repay their loans, the bank said Tuesday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Tennant Co., which makes floor-cleaning equipment, said
Tuesday its third-quarter earnings surged 40 percent, boosted by a hefty tax
benefit.
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Johnson Controls Inc., which makes car interiors and
building heating and cooling systems, on Tuesday reported its fourth-quarter
profit rose on strong demand in the commercial building market.
MILPITAS, Calif. (AP) -- Software company Phoenix Technologies Ltd. said
Tuesday its fiscal fourth-quarter loss narrowed on a sharp increase in sales.
