News:
NEW YORK (AP) -- Pfizer Inc., the world's largest pharmaceutical company,
said Thursday its third-quarter profit plunged due to a $2.8 billion pretax
charge to end investment in inhaled insulin drug Exubera, and lower sales of
blockbuster cholesterol drug Lipitor.
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP) -- Insteel Industries Inc.'s fourth-quarter profit was
cut nearly in half, due mostly to continued weakness in the housing market, the
company said Thursday.
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- First Community Bancorp said Thursday its third-quarter
earnings rose 4 percent due to increased net interest income related to recent
acquisitions.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Rimage Corp., which makes CD and DVD production and
duplication equipment, said Thursday its third-quarter earnings rose, aided by
higher sales of the company's high-end Producer disc publishing systems.
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- East West Bancorp Inc. said late Wednesday its
third-quarter earnings rose 16 percent, partly due to higher gains on sales of
bank premises and investment securities.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Bank of America Corp., the nation's second-largest
bank, said Thursday its profit fell 32 percent in the third quarter as trading
losses and write-downs on a wide variety of loans offset solid revenue growth in
most businesses.
