DALLAS (AP) -- Drilling contractor Ensco International Inc. said Thursday
its third-quarter earnings rose 24 percent on growth in international markets,
but added that it expects rig problems to cut fourth-quarter profit.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Drug developer QLT Inc. said Thursday it swung to a
third-quarter profit from a year-ago loss, but results failed to meet Wall
Street expectations. The company also announced plans to cut jobs within its R&D
and sales and administrative groups.
PHOENIX (AP) -- US Airways Group Inc. and Alaska Air Group Inc. swung to a
profit in the third quarter as they increased revenues and did a better job of
filling planes.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Cadence Design Systems Inc. fell Thursday after
the semiconductor manufacturing equipment maker reported its third-quarter
profit surged 73 percent, but some analysts downgraded the stock on concerns
about a new licensing model.
ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) -- ABB posted an 86 percent increase in
third-quarter earnings Thursday as the Swiss power and engineering company
increased electrical power capacity worldwide.
TOKYO (AP) -- A recovery in electronics sales offset losses in video games
and helped boost Sony's profit for the July-to-September quarter more than
40-fold over the same period a year ago.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Singapore-based STATS ChipPAC Ltd., one of Southeast Asia's
largest microchip testing and packaging providers, said late Wednesday its
third-quarter profit jumped nearly 51 percent as customers built up inventory
ahead of holiday demand.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- In its first year as a standalone company, underwear
and hosiery maker Hanesbrands Inc. has cut costs, jobs and profits.
ATLANTA (AP) -- Consumer products maker Newell Rubbermaid Inc. reported
Thursday a 56.9 percent increase in third-quarter profit on a solid rise in
sales.
