third-quarter loss widened due to a rise in operating costs led by higher health
care expenses that offset a revenue increase.
PARIS (AP) -- French drink company Remy Cointreau SA said Tuesday that its
first-half profit fell from a year earlier, when it booked gains from asset
sales.
BOSTON (AP) -- Staples Inc.'s third-quarter profit dipped 5 percent as
consumers spent less on office supplies, but sales of highly profitable items

soared. But results easily beat analyst estimates and the stock rose in
aftermarket trading.
SUFFERN, N.Y. (AP) -- Dress Barn Inc., a specialty women's apparel retailer,
said Tuesday its fiscal first-quarter earnings dropped 28 percent as sales at
the company's namesake stores were weakened by warm weather and cautious
consumer spending.
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) -- Central Garden & Pet Co., which sells pet, lawn
and garden products, said Tuesday it swung to a fiscal fourth-quarter loss as
sales fell in both its garden and pet divisions.
