CHICAGO (AP) -- Food processor Archer Daniels Midland Co. surprised Wall
Street on Tuesday by reporting stronger-than-expected profits and surging sales
despite a slowing of the ethanol boom, demonstrating its strength in oilseeds
processing and agricultural services. Its stock leaped almost 7 percent.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Valero Energy Corp., the nation's largest independent
oil refiner, said Tuesday its third-quarter profit dropped almost 21 percent
from a year earlier, but the current quarter was starting to improve.
DALLAS (AP) -- Tenet Healthcare Corp. said Tuesday its third-quarter loss
narrowed on higher prices and slower declines in patient admissions, and the
chief executive said a turnaround was gaining traction.
SEATTLE (AP) -- Online jewelry retailer Blue Nile Inc. on Tuesday said its
third-quarter profit rose 6 percent, as international sales rose.
COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Movie theater operator Carmike Cinemas Inc. said
Tuesday it swung to third-quarter profit as sales rose at the box office and
concession counter, but earnings were still below Wall Street expectations.
BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Beer Co. Inc., which owns the Samuel Adams brand,
Tuesday reported its third-quarter profit fell by nearly 50 percent due to an
exise tax provision.
WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) -- Medical device maker AtriCure Inc. said Tuesday
its third-quarter loss narrowed nearly 18 percent on strong U.S sales of
open-heart devices.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Comstock Resources Inc. surged Tuesday after the
oil and gas producer reported third-quarter earnings above Wall Street
estimates.
