Dr. David Potter confirms retirement
Psion PLC, the mobile computer company, today confirms the retirement of Dr.
David Potter as Chairman of the Company and as a Director of the Board of Psion
Plc.
Dr. Potter's retirement was announced on 26 June 2009, along with the
appointment of Mr. John Hawkins as his successor.Mr. Hawkins formally takes over
as Chairman from today.
Mr. Hawkins, 55, joined the Board of Psion in May 2002 and has more than 30
years' experience in the Telecommunications and IT Industries. John's business
experience was developed in Philips over twenty years, rising to President
(Europe), Philips Electronics NV.
Since 1997, Mr. Hawkins has led a number of companies through successful
turnarounds. He was instrumental in the turnaround of Anite plc where he
completely restructured the Company turning a loss of GBP68m to a profit of
GBP29m and growing profits Year on Year from 1998 to 2004. He was Chief
Executive of Graseby plc which was sold at a substantial premium to Smiths
Industries plc. He has recently stood down as Chairman of Salamander Ltd.,
where, over a period of four years, he helped the business to grow four-fold.
John currently holds the chairmanship of Genus plc which has recently moved to
the main FTSE 250 Market. He has also been CEO of Atex Group Limited since May
2004. Atex has been transformed under his leadership, trebling revenues and
increasing profits tenfold.
