that the Trustee of the Company's HM Revenue &
Customs approved share purchase plan ("the Plan"), Yorkshire Building Society, purchased
ordinary shares of 25 pence each on behalf of the
following Directors and Persons Discharging Managerial Responsibility on 4 August 2008, to be
held in accordance with the rules of the Plan.The shares were purchased at a price of 1.6525 pence per share.
