Japan is known as a country with four beautiful seasons, but how many know that those seasons can be further divided into 72 mini-seasons, each only lasting just five days or so, such as “Spring Winds Thaw the Ice,” “The First Peach Blossoms,” and “The First Frost Fall”? You can enjoy those subtle changes in the natural world, especially when travelling in Nara, through the application “72 Seasons Nara.”

Nara, located south of Kyoto, is one of the oldest capitals of Japan with over 1,300 years of history and the cradle of Japan’s arts, crafts and literature. As is shown by a number of extant historical Buddhist images and buildings around Nara City, Japanese culture flourished here under the reign of successive emperors. Nara is a treasure house of ancient history and culture set in a beautiful natural environment. It is one of the most popular cities among tourists visiting Japan.

“72 Seasons Nara” presents those charms of Nara on a seasonal basis in both English and Japanese, and is the perfect application to accompany people on their journeys around the prefecture. Based on the 72 seasons that have been used in Japan since ancient times, the calendar app offers a way to enjoy Nara that is unique to each season by introducing the ever-changing beauty of nature, the festivals and events based on Nara’s long history and culture, and its wealth of seasonal foods. The calendar is updated approximately every five days. The “Seasonal Adventure” section gives trip suggestions for each of the four main seasons—spring, summer, autumn and winter. “72 Seasons Nara” is a free-of-charge mobile application that can be used on iOS and Android devices.
