Cubic Global Defense accomplishes unique
training capability by integrating Canadian Weapon Effect
Simulation and Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation systems
Cubic Global Defense (CGD), a business unit of Cubic Corporation
(NYSE: CUB), today announced the successful integration of its Air
Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) system onboard the
Canadian Air Force F-18 aircraft, to the Cubic Canadian Weapon
Effect Simulation (CWES) system. The enhanced training capability
was demonstrated during the Canadian Forces’ largest annual
air-ground training exercise, Maple Resolve, at the Canadian
Manoeuver Training Centre in Wainwright, Alberta, Canada.
During exercise Maple Resolve, Canadian F-18 aircrew utilized
Cubic’s ACMI system to conduct simulated attacks and process
Real-Time Kill Notification (RTKN) weapon effects on live, ground
targets of opportunity outfitted with CWES systems. More than 6,500
Maple Resolve air and ground participants benefitted from this
advanced training, which improved Close Air Support coordination
while preventing friendly fire or ‘Blue on Blue,’ incidents.
Combined arms training was further enhanced by allowing detailed,
live-tracking operations-level control, which was recorded for
comprehensive debriefs by Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC)
and Canadian Air Force pilots.
“The successful synergy of air and ground training enhances the
value and effectiveness of joint training and the demonstration at
Maple Resolve sets the stage for soldiers to sharpen their skills
within a realistic, complex and challenging operating environment,”
said Mike Knowles, vice president and general manager for Cubic
Global Defense. “We are delighted to have participated in Maple
Resolve with the Canadian Forces to deliver and validate a fully
integrated air and ground training environment that provides real
and measurable feedback to increase training proficiency and
readiness.”
As a leading integrator of military training systems, Cubic
continues to advance its instrumentation systems to enable military
operators to train more effectively and with less risk in more
realistic and integrated environments. Cubic ACMI systems feature
air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons simulations, and integrate
with surface-to-air weapons simulation; real-time monitoring
capabilities; and post-mission debriefs. The CWES system enables
live force-on-force collective training exercises using lasers and
radio signals instead of real munitions. Electronic components are
integrated into every soldier's equipment as well as onto all
vehicles allowing instant feedback on the results of each laser or
radio-based engagement.
The ACMI-CWES integration innovation is an example of how Cubic
is leading the shift from traditional live training to
next-generation training solutions which leverage integrated Live,
Virtual and Constructive (LVC) environment with interconnected
systems.
