Credit Agricole CIB has obtained the approval of the Minister of Finance in Canada and the OSFI to establish a banking branch. The Canadian branch will provide corporate and financial services for clients’ local and international business goals

Crédit Agricole CIB, the Corporate and Investment Banking arm of the Crédit Agricole Group, the world’s ninth largest bank by total assets, announced that the Minister of Finance and Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions in Canada (“OSFI”) has approved the designation of Crédit Agricole CIB as a branch.

Since its opening in 2005 Crédit Agricole CIB had operated as a representative office, serving as a liaison between clients and other Credit Agricole CIB international offices and affiliates of the Crédit Agricole Group.

“The establishment of a service branch in Canada is a very welcome recognition of Crédit Agricole CIB’s growing profile and increasingly important role throughout Canada, and especially one that will greatly facilitate its ability to serve our expanding roster of Canadian clients,” said Xavier Roux, Senior Country Officer Canada. “The approval of the Minister of Finance and OSFI will allow Credit Agricole CIB Canada to be of assistance in contributing to the nation’s economic and financial growth, and we are greatly appreciative.”

The Montreal-based Branch of Crédit Agricole CIB will continue to function as part of Credit Agricole CIB Americas’ regional network, headquartered in New York City. It will have access to Credit Agricole CIB’s specialist units and global network, thus providing clients broad capabilities in achieving their international operating goals.

Credit Agricole CIB Canada Branch provides corporate finance and structured finance services in areas such as transportation, export and trade finance, real estate, energy and project finance, among others, in addition to foreign exchange trading, and interest rate and currency derivatives.
