Energy company supports championship tradition of giving back through $500,000 in funding to non-profit organizations

Constellation announced today the local Boston charities that will receive grants as part of this year’s Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship, which will be held June 9-14 at Belmont Country Club.

As championship sponsor, Constellation, through the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship, will provide $500,000 in funding to Boston-area non-profit organizations. These grants support a variety of local organizations and activities in the areas of education, youth development, affordable housing and family support services. Grant amounts will be announced after the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship.

“Constellation has a strong history and presence in Massachusetts, so we’re especially pleased to be able to help support local organizations who are making a difference,” said Bruce Stewart, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Constellation. “Giving back to the communities we serve is a key part of Constellation’s culture, and an important part of the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship.”

Located throughout the greater Boston area, the 2015 charities are:

The First Tee of Massachusetts provides young people with character-building and life skills lessons using golf as the platform.

Boston Medical Center provides over 850,000 annual patient visits emphasizing community-based care. BMC is committed to providing consistently excellent and accessible health services to all—and is the largest safety-net hospital in New England.

Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of community fundraising events.

The Sports Museum uses Boston’s distinctly rich sports heritage to reach over 8,000 elementary and middle school students per year with the Boston vs. Bullies program to help them stand strong in the face of drugs, violence and other dangers.

The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund helps young men and women who have worked at golf courses in Massachusetts obtain a college education by providing need-based undergraduate scholarships which are renewable and can be worth up to $10,000 – $40,000 (or more) for four years.

Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston has been serving low-income families in the greater Boston area since 1987. In its first 25 years, it has helped over 100 families with a hand-up, not a hand-out, to achieve their dream of homeownership.

Golf Fights Cancer taps into the passion and generosity of golfers to raise much needed funds for cancer-related organizations and families living with the disease through targeted donations for equipment, services and amenities that make an immediate positive impact on treatment and the experience for both the patient and family.

The Joey Fund is an independent fund established in 1986 in memory of Joey O’Donnell, a courageous fighter and victim of cystic fibrosis. Together the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Joey Fund supply financial support for New England cystic fibrosis patients and their families in times of extreme sickness or need and to fund research to achieve the ultimate goal–a cure for cystic fibrosis.

“The most rewarding aspect of this Championship is being able to leave a charitable footprint in the Boston community,” said Joe Rotellini, executive director of the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. “Thanks to our title sponsor, Constellation, and other efforts, we are able to support these wonderful causes."

The Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS has donated more than $9.5 million to charity since 1992. It is one of five major championships during the Champions Tour season.
