ATLANTA (AP) - Video-on-demand system software maker Concurrent Computer
Corp. said Monday it paid C-Cor Inc. $1.7 million to finalize a patent license
agreement with the company to resolve patent transferability issues.
The patents, intially developed by Oracle Corp., were later sold to nCube
and Thirdspace Living Ltd. Concurrent gained a license to the patents through
investing in Thirdspace in 2002, the company said. In 2003, Alcatel -- now
Alcatel-Lucent -- bought Thirdspace's assets, at which point the license was
reissued.
The deal lets anyone who purchases Concurrent or its video streaming
business and a subsequent acquirer to be covered under the patents that have
been licensed to Concurrent by Alcatel, as long as the acquirer hasn't been
considered a license target by Alcatel.
Concurrent also said Monday that it received $3.2 million from Thirdspace to
pay secured debts it owed the company. Thirdspace got the funds from C-Cor by
agreeing to drop claims for proceeds C-Cor gained through a patent law suit
against video-on-demand company SeaChange International Inc.
Concurrent shares rose 3 cents to $1.26, while C-Cor lost 4 cents to $11.55
in morning trading.
