ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Con-Way Transportation Services, Inc. (Con-Way), a subsidiary of CNF Inc. (NYSE:CNF) today announced that one of its three less-than-truckload freight companies, Con-Way Central Express (CCX) received awards from the Indiana and Michigan National Guard and Reserve for support of its employees who were called to active duty from their full-time jobs with the company.
On April 7, in Lansing, MI, CCX received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Above and Beyond award. Accepting the award on behalf of CCX was David L. Miller, company president. The award is presented by the ESGR, a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. It recognizes employers who make a special effort to support staff members serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Also attending the ceremonies were Thomas G. Cutler, Adjutant General of the Michigan Air National Guard and Michigan Congressman Mike Rogers.
In Indiana CCX has been nominated to receive the Freedom Award for its support of employees in the Reserve and also received the Above and Beyond award. On April 11 Miller signed a "5 Star" statement declaring the company's support of the Guard during ceremonies at the company's Plainfield, IN service center. The company was nominated for the Freedom Award by one of its employees, Michael McAllister, a driver sales representative who serves in the Indiana National Guard.
"At CCX our commitment to employees in the Guard and Reserve is a responsibility we take very seriously. They are risking their lives to defend and protect our way of life. That we honor them with as much support to them and their families as we can reasonably provide is the least we can do," said Miller.
According to Guard officials, the awards recognize employers for exceptional support of their employees who serve in Reserve components. Criteria for the awards included company support of the employee's family, compensation and benefits and recognition of the employee while on active duty.
