SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt.,
April 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/
-- On Saturday, April 25, more
than 250 local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families,
friends and community partners will "make change happen" as they
volunteer to improve four sites in Vermont as part of the 14th annual
Comcast Cares Day.
Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National
Volunteer Month, is Comcast NBCUniversal's companywide celebration
of their year-round commitment to service and the nation's largest
single-day corporate volunteer effort in the country. Today
around 250 Vermont volunteers will roll their sleeves up at sites
in Brandon, Bennington, Burlington and Montpelier.
For example, at the Rutland County Parent Child-Center in
Brandon, over 150 volunteers
including participants from the Center, Comcast employees and their
family and friends will help paint fences, power wash and stain
wooden play sets, refurbish the "Tree House" and sand box, perform
minor landscaping and clean up gardening beds.
"We are truly grateful for our partnership with Comcast during
Comcast Cares Day, as it draws attention to the needs of the
Rutland County community and
encourages volunteers and other organizations to get involved,"
said Caprice Hover, Executive
Director at the Rutland County Parent-Child Center.
This year, the Company expects more than 90,000 Comcast and
NBCUniversal volunteers to participate in more than 750 projects
across the country and around the globe. To date, volunteers have
contributed more than 3.7 million service hours to improve nearly
6,000 projects in the U.S. and around the world since Comcast Cares
Day started in 2001.
Hope Lodge in Burlington Vermont will be joined by Comcast
and members of the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington to paint and spring-clean the
facility which offers free temporary housing and support services
to more than 2,000 cancer patients who are undergoing treatment at
Fletcher Allen each year.
"The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Lois McClure –
Bee Tabakin building in Burlington relies on the generosity of
volunteers to help keep this home away from home for cancer
patients operating on a daily basis," said Holly Grant, senior vice president of
Operations. "We're grateful for our partnership with Comcast during
Comcast Cares Day, as it draws attention to the needs within our
community and encourages others to get involved."
"We're so proud to partner with these deserving organizations to
improve our community during our 14th Comcast Cares
Day," added Mary McLaughlin, Comcast
Senior Vice President of the Western New England Region, which
includes Vermont. "The hard work
of the 250 Vermont volunteers who will be donating their time to
help make such a big difference in the lives of others is
inspiring, and I am thankful to all of our participants who are
helping to make today a success."
The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local
community partner organizations across the country on behalf of
everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help
Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the
community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation
has awarded more than $16 million in
grants to local non-profit organizations who have partnered with us
on Comcast Cares Day.
