The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is pleased to announce
Dr. Carole Staley Collins, PhD, MSN, RN-BC as Director of the Pathway to
Excellence™ Program.
As Director, Dr. Collins will be responsible for the development,
direction, planning, organization, administration, and activities of the
Pathway to Excellence Program.
The goal of the Pathway to Excellence Program is to identify the
elements of positive work environments where nurses can flourish. The
award substantiates the professional satisfaction of nurses and
identifies best places to work.
“Staley Collins comes to ANCC with an
impressive background in all aspects of the nursing profession; her
distinguished 20-year career with the U.S. Air Force Nurse Corps speaks
volumes about her dedication to nursing and her country,”
said ANCC Board President Debbie D. Hatmaker, PhD, RN, SANE-A. “She
will be a significant asset to ANCC.”
Dr. Collins earned a PhD in Education Policy and Leadership from the
University of Maryland, College Park and an MSN in Community Health
Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San
Antonio, TX. She was elected to membership in Sigma Theta Tau
International Nursing Honor Society and Phi Delta Phi International
Honor Society. She is ANCC-certified as a Community Health Nurse and her
research has focused on older adults and health promotion, and, in
particular, the role of gardening and nature for human health and
well-being.
The Pathway to Excellence designation is perfectly suited to small and
medium-sized healthcare organizations, but is attainable by all
healthcare facilities around the world. Dr. Collins looks forward to
developing the international outreach of the program in the future. She
is fluent in Spanish, having spent nearly a decade in Central and Latin
America with her parents who were part of the U.S. Embassy diplomatic
corps.
A Pathway-designated organization is committed to nurses, to what nurses
identify as important to their practice, and to valuing nurses’
contributions in the workplace. This designation confirms to the public
that nurses working in a Pathway to Excellence organization know their
efforts are supported. The award invites other nurses to join their
colleagues in this desirable and nurturing environment.
