NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of large pharmaceutical companies closed higher
Monday after the broader market leaped on the announcement that JPMorgan Chase &
Co. will pay about five times more than previously planned for Bear Stearns.
The American Stock Exchange's Pharmaceutical Index rose 1.09 points to
299.65.
Here's how some key drug makers fared Monday:
Wyeth rose 50 cents to $42.15.
Merck & Co. shares rose 89 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $44.25.
Eli Lilly & Co. shares rose 26 cents to $50.10.
Pfizer Inc. rose 2 cents to $20.61.
