The following statement is attributed to Gary
Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association
(CTA)™,
regarding presumptive Democratic Presidential
nominee Hillary Clinton’s selection of Sen. Tim
Kaine as her vice presidential running mate:
“We congratulate Sen. Kaine on receiving the vice
presidential nomination. Secretary Clinton was the
first major 2016 presidential candidate to unveil a
dedicated tech and innovation policy agenda –
recognizing the value of the Internet of Things, the
importance of licensed and unlicensed spectrum and the
removal of barriers that stifle new
innovators – and we hope to see her and Sen.
Kaine continue the discussion on these key
issues throughout the campaign.
“Throughout his political career, Senator Kaine has been a
supporter of free trade and other issues critical to the technology
sector. As governor of Virginia, he supported the expansion of
high-speed internet access.”
“The U.S. tech sector is driving our economy, creating good jobs
and strengthening our nation’s global competitiveness. As the
Clinton-Kaine campaign continues to discuss its
forward-thinking policy plans for technology and innovation, we
hope the Trump-Pence campaign will soon develop and share
its own detailed tech policy
agenda on these critical issues.”
