The City of West Hollywood will host the “Gay
Men’s Forum: The Body and Soul of the Community”
on Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fiesta Hall at
Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood. This
day-long event will focus on the theme: “Where
We’ve Been. Where We Are. Where We’re
Heading” and will include contemporary
experiences of gay men, panel discussions featuring a range of
perspectives from the Gay community, special performances and
interactive workshops.
“Where We’ve Been.
Where We Are. Where We’re Heading is the
premise of the West Hollywood Gay Men’s Forum,”
said West Hollywood Mayor John Duran. “The
rationale for these three premises is simple. We cannot understand why
we face the things we face as gay men if we don’t
understand our recent, contemporary history, and that’s
why we’ll start the day with a conversation
with two prominent gay men who know about our history: Dr. Don Kilhefner
and Phill Wilson, founder of the Black AIDS Institute,”
he continued.
The Gay Men’s Forum will also feature panels
focusing on complexity and diversity in gay life, hot sex/real intimacy,
the importance of creativity and culture in the gay community, and a
discussion on gay affirmative psychology that will explore who we are as
gay people.
The forum is being held in collaboration with the City of West Hollywood’s
Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board, community organizations and the City’s
Social Services Division.
