Johnson & Strachan Inc., a full-service commercial and personal
insurance agency, announced today that Charlie Venus has joined the firm
as Vice President of Operations. The firm also announced that Richard
Dygve has been promoted to Senior Vice President.
Venus, who retired from The Hartford in 2006 following a 30-year career,
joins Johnson & Strachan from Travelers where he had been Managing
Underwriting Director for select accounts in the company’s
Washington, D.C. office.

breadth of experience in the insurance industry, as well as his proven
record of success and leadership will enable our firm to better serve

Over the course of his career at The Hartford, Venus held a number of
management positions including Loss Control Manager, Commercial Business
Unit Manager, Middle Market Underwriting Manager, Assistant Regional
Vice President, and Market Strategy Manager.
Venus received his B.S. degree in chemistry and his M.B.A. from the
University of New Orleans. He earned his Associate in Risk Management
certificate in 1981 and became a Chartered Property-Casualty Underwriter
in 1996.
“Because of his impeccable credentials and his
longtime presence in the industry, we are looking to Charlie to play an
integral role in attracting key people to the company and to identify
agencies for acquisition as we continue to grow,”
said executive vice president Bill Strachan.
Dygve, who started his own insurance agency in 1983 and merged it with
Johnson & Strachan in 2003, will increase his scope of responsibilities
at the firm.
“Richard Dygve has proven himself to be an
energetic and strategic visionary who brings a deep understanding of how
economic realities affect our clients and devises insurance plans to
protect them,” Johnson said.
Before starting his own agency, Dygve was a sales representative for
Travelers Insurance. He earned his B.A. degree in economics from the
University of Virginia and is a member of the American Insurance
Marketing and Sales Society. He also is a Certified Insurance Consultant
and a Certified Professional Insurance Agent.
