Charles M. Winograd retires from RBC Capital Markets

TORONTO, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today RBC announced that Charles (Chuck) Winograd, the chairman and CEO of RBC Capital Markets, is retiring from this position effective October 31, 2008 after a distinguished career with the firm and predecessor organizations that has spanned four decades. Chuck will remain with the bank to facilitate transition into January 2009.

"Chuck has led the transformation of our capital markets business to a significant and growing global concern," said Gordon Nixon, president and chief executive officer of RBC. "While Chuck will always credit this success story to the people in RBC Capital Markets, he played a strong and effective leadership role in our decisions to pursue new markets and enter new businesses, and the execution of these initiatives. He has also overseen our premier domestic Canadian capital markets franchise that is stronger than it has ever been."

Chuck Winograd's career in investment banking began as a research analyst at Richardson Securities of Canada in 1971, the same year he graduated with a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Western Ontario. He earned a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1979. In 1982, Chuck became a director and head of Research and, in 1985, became head of Equity Sales, Trading and Research. Chuck became president and CEO of Richardson Greenshields in January 1987 and chairman and CEO in 1991.

Chuck has been with RBC since 1996 when, as chief executive officer of Canada's largest privately-owned investment dealer, he was part of RBC's acquisition of Richardson Greenshields. Two years later, he became the president and chief operating officer of RBC Dominion Securities, and then in 2001, became president and chief executive officer of RBC Capital Markets.

Over the years, Chuck has been active in industry affairs including serving as chairman of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. He has also been active in community affairs, and currently is a director of the Board of Mount Sinai Hospital and the Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy. He has also committed his time and energy to the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto where he co-chaired the 2005 Annual Campaign.

When Chuck retires from his position, Mark Standish and Doug McGregor, currently co-presidents of RBC Capital Markets, will become president and co-CEO and chairman and co-CEO, respectively.
