Change of Name to Harvard International plc
Alba plc is a distributor of consumer electrical goods in the UK and of medical
electronic devices in the UK, Europe and the US
Following the sale of its Alba and Bush brands, and in accordance with a
condition of that sale, Alba plc will be changing its name to Harvard
International plc, with effect from tomorrow (1 April 2009).
As a result of this change of name, the Company's TIDM code will change from
ABA.L to HAR.L, which is intended to become effective on 2 April 2009.
Harvard International plc ("Harvard" or "the Group") comprises two operating
businesses, Consumer Electronics and Medical Devices.
The Consumer Electronics businesses in the UK encompass the Goodmans, Grundig,
Iluv and Disney brands and distribute a tightly-focused product range including
DAB radios, set-top Freesat boxes and Disney branded electrical products via
high street retail outlets.
The Medical Devices business includes the Kinetik and Sonetik brands. It aims to
meet growing demand from health conscious consumers for self diagnosis equipment
such as blood pressure monitors, stepometers, body fat measuring devices and
TENS machines.
In addition to its two operating businesses, the Group also owns a portfolio of
four properties, formerly occupied by its operating activities, some of which
have been let pending eventual disposal. Harvard also has cash reserves of
approximately GBP20 million, following its disposals of non-core businesses over
the past three years.
Harvard will be announcing its annual results for the year to 31 March 2009 in
mid-June.
