Current president Dr. Katherine Walls to retire after more than 30 years in healthcare

Chamberlain College of Nursing announced the appointment of Beverly Bonaparte, Ph.D., RN, ANP, FAAN, as president of its Jacksonville campus, effective immediately. She will oversee curriculum implementation; delivery of student services; growth and development of regional clinical partnerships; and management of day-to-day campus operations. Dr. Bonaparte brings more than 35 years of academic, administrative and clinical experience in healthcare to the position.

Before joining Chamberlain, Dr. Bonaparte served in academic leadership roles at Pace University, William Patterson University and St. George’s University, and as director of master’s degree programs at New York University. She was also adjunct professor in the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program for the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Dr. Bonaparte is a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Academy of Nursing, the National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. She holds an associate degree in nursing from Queens College; a bachelor’s degree in political science and international affairs from Hunter College; and master’s degrees in biophysical pathology and higher education, and a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University.

“I look forward to fostering relationships with local healthcare leaders and clinical partners to broaden experiential learning opportunities for our students so they are positioned for career success,” said Dr. Bonaparte. “As our healthcare system evolves toward a more collaborative patient-care model, I will work to ensure that we are preparing future nurses to work on interprofessional teams to deliver extraordinary care and improve health outcomes.”

Dr. Bonaparte succeeds Katherine Walls, Ph.D., MSN, RN, who is retiring after serving as Jacksonville campus president since 2012. Before her appointment as president, Dr. Walls had been the campus’s dean of academic affairs since its opening in July 2009.

“Dr. Walls’ commitment to preparing the next generation of nurses has made an immeasurable impact in the four years she served our Jacksonville campus, and we wish her well as she embarks on the next chapter of her life,” said Susan Groenwald, Ph.D., RN, ANEF, FAAN, national president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Dr. Bonaparte’s experience serving at decision-making tables within healthcare gives her a unique perspective and makes her an ideal candidate to succeed Dr. Walls. We look forward to her leadership at our Jacksonville campus as she carries on our tradition of providing students with the education needed to make a positive impact as extraordinary nurses in today’s healthcare system.”

Chamberlain’s Jacksonville campus is one of 16 campus locations across the country and one of two campuses located in Florida; the other is in Miramar. For more information about Chamberlain College of Nursing and its programs visit chamberlain.edu.
