Grand Prize Winner to be Announced during Finale Event on October 16 in Chicago
DEERFIELD, Ill., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- After a fierce competition between aspiring designers and artists, Basil Hayden(TM) Bourbon, Out magazine and Chicago Home + Garden magazine have announced the finalists in the 2008 Basil Hayden Design Chicago search. Celebrating the sophisticated, fashion-forward image of Basil Hayden, the design competition challenged creatives to bring the spirit's rich flavor and stylish packaging to life in four unique categories: artwork, fashion, furnishings and interior design elements. The top three entries were selected by celebrity designer Nate Berkus.
The top three designs are: a distinctive Basil Hayden-inspired chair designed by Sarah Tranum; a modern coffee table inspired by Basil Hayden's rich amber color and signature copper-band packaging created by Bryan Lump; and an elegant, 36-inch chandelier designed by Rion Stassi. Each designer resides in Chicago.
"This competition was created to support emerging talent," says Mara Melamed, brand manager, Basil Hayden Bourbon. "Each design captures the unsurpassed style of Basil Hayden, while showcasing the sophistication of today's aspiring designers." According to celebrity designer and Design Chicago judge Nate Berkus: "I could tell from the entries submitted that each designer had carefully considered how their piece conveyed their style as well as matched the spirit of the competition." Each finalist received $2,500 to turn their concept into a reality for display at the VIP finale event at Crimson Lounge (333 N. Dearborn St.) on October 16. Guests of the event will select a winner, who will be awarded $10,000 and named during the elite cocktail party hosted by Berkus.

About Nate Berkus Nate Berkus developed a life-long passion for design at a very young age. After graduating from Lake Forest College, Nate took a job with Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, as well as internship with Dominique Aurientis in Paris, France. Self-taught, Nate then went on to form Nate Berkus Associates in 1995. The firm grew to include projects for Wolfgang Puck's Spago, Barney's New York, W hotels, as well as a prestigious list of private homes and clients. In 2001, Nate was invited to make over a small space for "The Oprah Winfrey Show." From there, Nate became a featured design expert for the show and continues to be regular contributor to O at Home magazine and on the Oprah show. Then, in 2008, Nate was asked to host a movement-making show for ABC called, "Oprah's Big Give." "It's funny, as a kid, I think I rearranged the rooms of almost every house on the block," laughs Nate. "I feel like I'm still doing the same thing. Except, now I'm coming into your living room through the TV..." About Regent Media (Out Magazine Parent Company) Formed in 2008 by Regent Entertainment co-founders Paul Colichman and Stephen P.
