ZION, Ill., Dec. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the
first time, The Leapfrog Group has named Cancer Treatment Centers
of America® (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center
(Midwestern) to its annual list of Top Hospitals. This recognition
showcases the hospital's commitment to providing safe, efficient
and high quality patient care. Out of the 1,600 hospitals
that reported information to The Leapfrog Group, CTCA® at
Midwestern was one of only 98 to receive the honor of being named a
Top Hospital.
"Each and every day, our employees strive to provide the safest
and most compassionate care possible for our patients as they
battle cancer. To be recognized as a Leapfrog Group Top Hospital is
a true testament of our values and promise to these patients," said
Scott Jones, president and CEO of
CTCA at Midwestern. "Everything we do is patient-focused, from the
addition of our inpatient tower, which was designed with patient
needs, desires and safety in mind, to offering advanced treatment
options and providing integrative oncology services to help improve
quality of life."
Focus on whole-patient care has made the hospital a travel
destination for individuals seeking cancer treatment. On
November 27, 2015 CTCA at Midwestern
opened a 168,078 square-foot, six-story inpatient tower to better
serve patients from around the country and internationally. The new
tower offers 72 innovative, single-occupancy inpatient oncology
rooms, and common space designed to bring comfort and convenience
to patients and their loved ones. When designing the tower, the
same elements that made CTCA at Midwestern a Top Hospital were
considered of utmost importance, including superior patient care,
safety and efficiency.
Only six percent of hospitals eligible receive the Top Hospital
award, which is given to urban, rural and children's hospitals that
publicly report their performance through the annual Leapfrog
Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in each year's
Top Hospitals Methodology. The selection is based on the
results of the survey, which measures hospitals' performance on
patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of
hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management
structures established to prevent errors. Performance across many
areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the
qualifications for the award, including survival rates for
high-risk procedures and a hospital's ability to prevent medication
errors.
"Leapfrog's Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of
the most prestigious distinctions any hospital can achieve in
the United States," said
Leah Binder, president and CEO of
The Leapfrog Group. "Top Hospitals have lower infection rates,
better outcomes, decreased length of stay and fewer readmissions.
By achieving Top Hospital status, CTCA at Midwestern has proven it
prioritizes the safety of its patients, is committed to
transparency and provides exemplary care for families and patients
in CTCA at Midwestern. I congratulate the board, staff, and
clinicians of CTCA at Midwestern whose efforts achieved these
results."
