EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Cambrex Corp., which makes active
pharmaceutical ingredients, said Friday a product containing one of its
materials was recalled for undisclosed reasons.
Cambrex declined to reveal the name of the company, its product, or the
reason for the recall, citing a confidentiality agreement. But, in a statement,
it said the recall will hurt its 2008 financial performance, though it is unsure
of the extent.
According to the Food and Drug Administration's Web site, American Health
Packaging, a unit of AmerisourceBergen Corp., on Thursday recalled 1,421 units
of the blood thinner heparin because it could contain a potentially dangerous
contaminant. The move was part of a broader, ongoing recall, in which
contaminated heparin from a different manufacturer was associated with 19 deaths
and hundreds of allergic reactions.
Cambrex, in its statement, said the recall decision from the unnamed company
is likely not linked to Cambrex's performance as a manufacturer.
On Friday, B. Braun Medical Inc. also recalled lots of heparin after one of
its suppliers, Wisconsin-based Scientific Protein Laboratories, said an
ingredient it provided contained a potentially dangerous chemical.
