HILARY SIMPSON OF LONDON BOROUGH OF CAMDEN
SHORTLISTED FOR PUBLIC SECTOR DEPLOYMENT OF THE YEAR – WOMEN IN IT
AWARDS
Hilary Simpson, Head of ICT Business Partnering, Service
Integration and Multi Agency Working for the London Borough of
Camden, has been shortlisted for the Public Sector Deployment of
the Year for the Women in IT Awards.
The Awards have been organised by Information Age, the business
technology magazine and will be attended by hundreds of the UK’s
leading IT innovators. Across 12 categories, there have been more
than 100 nominations for the Awards, which will take place at
London’s Grosvenor House Ballroom, Park Lane, on 29 January
2015.
The Public Sector Deployment of the Year award recognises public
sector ICT deployments over the last 18 months where a woman was
instrumental to its success. The project must demonstrate
innovation, best practice, alignment to business goals, impact on
the business and ROI.
Hilary Simpson has been shortlisted for leading the
implementation of IBM InfoSphere MDM to obtain a cross-council view
of the citizen at Camden, in collaboration with IBM and Entity
Group, a specialist Information Management Consultancy. In 2014,
the project won the UK Government Computing Transformation
Award.
With continued pressure on local government to cut costs while
maintaining service levels, Camden realised the only way to sustain
savings was to harness its data to drive smarter
decision-making.
Within just three months, Hilary led the development of a
“Residents’ Index”, uniting information from multiple services to
create a single, consistent view of residents across the borough
and the council services that they receive. The solution prevents
and detects fraud ensuring the Council allocates its resources
fairly, improves collaboration, enhances data quality, and enables
a “right first time” service. It identifies which services
residents are engaging with, so Camden can provide a better, more
joined-up service to them, and make more informed strategic
decisions by looking at service patterns as a whole.
It is an example of the type of outstanding innovation that is
being achieved by women across the IT industry, a fact that will be
celebrated at The Women in IT Awards later this month.
