CMS Rating for Amedisys Home Health Centers Climbs to Average of 4.03 Stars
May 25 2017 - 7:00AM
Amedisys Inc. (NASDAQ:AMED), one of the nation’s leading home
health care, hospice and personal care companies, has received an
average rating of 4.03 Stars – out of a possible 5 – for Quality of
Patient Care across all of its home health centers from the Centers
for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). That figure represents
a 15% increase from a year ago and above the industry average.
Three-fourths of its home health centers (75%) achieved a rating of
4 Stars or better, compared to thirty percent (30%) last year.
“No metric better demonstrates our determination to deliver
outstanding clinical results than ratings in home health from the
all-important CMS Star program,” stated President and Chief
Executive Officer Paul Kusserow. “And we’re making tremendous
strides. We’ve now seen improvement for six straight quarters, and
we’re on track for every one of the 330 home health care centers we
operate in 34 states to achieve a quality Star rating of 4 or
higher by the end of this year.”
Indeed, fifty-three of Amedisys’ home health care centers rated
4.5 Stars, with five attaining 5 Stars. Patient Satisfaction Star
ratings have risen to 3.8, also above the industry average.
“Our care centers rank among the top in the nation for
delivering quality patient care,” stated Chief Clinical Officer
Susan Sender. “In fact, our July preview shows our quality of
patient care Star ratings averaging 4.13, with 82% of our home
health care centers at 4 Stars or higher. This is a direct result
of our commitment to clinical distinction and investing in our
people to provide the highest quality of care to our patients.”
According to CMS, its Home Health Compare website is designed to
be a key tool for consumers to use for choosing a home health
provider – an “easy-to-access, convenient source of authoritative
information on provider quality.” In 2015, CMS added to its
reporting system a one-to-five Star rating, to “summarize” 24
measures of provider performance such as “timely initiation of
care” and “improvement in ambulation.”
