LONDON (Thomson Financial) - British Energy Group will this week receive a
6.2 billion pound offer from French utility EdF, following reports last week
that potential rival bidder RWE AG of Germany has pulled out of the race to buy
the U.K.'s biggest nuclear power company, the Mail on Sunday reported, without
citing sources.
The paper said the offer of about 600 pence per share would come as a
disappointment to the U.K. government, which has a 35 percent stake in British
Energy, and had attempted to orchestrate an auction for the company.
EdF could not immediately be reached.
