SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. said Friday
results from an exploratory Phase II study suggest that Orencia may delay the
development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in people with undifferentiated
inflammatory arthritis (UA).
Orencia is already approved for use in adults with moderate to severe RA,
but it not indicated for people with UA.
The study enrolled 56 people, the company said, and further studies in
larger patient populations are required to validate the findings.
The results were presented at the Annual Congress of the European League
Against Rheumatism, held in Paris.
Shares of the New York-based drug company rose 1.3% to $19.92.
