The H-Trap is also available for purchase online and in four other states:  Delaware: Chicks Harness Supply in Harrington; New Mexico: Cooks True Value in Espanola; Pennsylvania: Wurster Farm/Dublin Agway in Dublin; and Virginia: Epps Farm in Suffolk.

"We sold out during our first online sales last summer, and so we know there is an interest and a market for a well-designed horsefly trap that will prevent bites, pain, and discomfort to humans and horses," said Bite-Lite Director of Sales Gail Bedoukian.  "We are especially excited about venturing into the resellers market this year, and receiving Family Farm and Home's order and support."

Designed in the Netherlands, the Bite-Lite outdoor horsefly trap is unique among other commercial and government surveillance traps available in the US.   To catch multiple species of tabanids (commonly known as horseflies, B 52's, yellow flies, greenheads, and deer flies, etc.), the H-Trap uses a unique single legged frame, large black inflatable ball, and green conical hood to trick the female horsefly into finding the ball's infrared signature after being heated by the sun.  By placing the trap in a sunny location near where adult horseflies are known to emerge (wet, swampy areas), the females will land on the ball to "feed" and failing to get their intended blood meal, they will fly vertically, their normal flight path, into the green plastic conical hood and get trapped in the plastic collection bin (both parts are UV proof).

Since last May, researchers have conducted testing for Bite-Lite in Florida and Cape Cod, MA, and have reported good results.  "This is the best and sturdiest trap we've ever had!   Best of all, it attracts the flies that bother horses," said Greg McCandless of Cedar Ridge Ranch in Cedar Key, FL, one of the test locations.

The Bite-Lite horsefly trap is perfect for any sunny location where female horseflies are a nuisance, including commercial and residential horse stable yards, cattle farms, campgrounds, meadows, golf courses, gardens, ponds, swimming pools, water parks, state parks.    Coverage is a 5 horse paddock or about 2.5 acres, and there are no chemicals or electricity involved.  Warranty is two years on mechanical parts.
