FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Bayer AG. said it will end its cooperation
with Titan Pharmaceuticals Inc. over the development of Parkinson's disease
therapy Spheramine after the brain injection failed to show the desired effect
in a Phase II study.
"We will not develop (this drug) further and we will not invest into it
further," Bayer spokesman Jost Reinhard said.
Titan said earlier on Wednesday a Phase IIb trial involving 71 patients
failed to meet its primary or key secondary endpoints, with no significant
differences detected between the Spheramine arm and a sham-surgery control group
after 12 months of follow-up.
