FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Bayer AG. said that its Nexavar cancer pill
was shown to prolong the lives of liver cancer patients by 47.3 percent compared
to patients receiving a placebo in a phase III study in the Asia-Pacific region.
Patients suffering from advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, or primary liver
cancer, that were given Nexavar had a median survival of 6.5 months compared
with 4.2 months for those receiving a placebo, the German drug maker said in a
statement.
Bayer is co-developing Nexavar with Onyx Pharmaceuticals Inc.
