LONDON--BT Group PLC (BT.LN) Thursday posted a rise in net profit, boosted by broadband services and sports channels.

The U.K. telecommunications company said net profit in the quarter ended March 31 rose to 756 million pounds ($1.1 billion) from GBP690 million for the same period a year earlier.

Fourth-quarter earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, adjusted for exceptional items, rose 14% year-over-year to GBP2.08 billion. Revenue before exceptional items rose 22% to GBP5.66 billion.

Fiscal-year earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, adjusted for exceptional items, was GBP6.58 billion, up 5%. The company expected "modest growth" in adjusted Ebitda in fiscal 2016.

Fiscal-year net profit rose to GBP2.59 billion from GBP2.14 billion.

It recommended a full-year dividend of 14 pence, up 13%.

BT shares closed Wednesday at 440 pence, valuing the company at GBP43.8 billion.
