FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is aiming to
raise its share of the German market to between 8.8 and 9 pct this year without
resorting to discounts, the head of the company's German business Ludwig
Willisch told Auto Motor und Sport magazine.
The figure, which refers to the combined market share of the BMW and Mini
brands, compares to 8.6 pct in 2006.
"The biggest challenge for this year is to put a lid on discounts," Willisch
was quoted as saying in an excerpt of an interview to be published Thursday.
The magazine also citied sources at the company as saying BMW plans to
produce the next version of its X3 sports utility vehicle in China from the
second half of 2011.
A BMW spokesman described the reported plan as "speculation," Auto Motor and
Sport said.
