LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Defence group BAE Systems Plc. said it has
opted for an internal candidate to replace outgoing chief executive Mike Turner.
BAE said chief operating officer Ian King will replace Turner from Sept. 1.
There had been speculation BAE was considering a number of external candidates
including Paul Lester, the chief executive of support services and shipbuilding
company VT Group.
King has been BAE's chief operating officer, responsible for the
Farnborough-based group's UK and rest-of-world businesses, and a director of the
company, since Jan. 2007.
