Avnet helps Cisco develop a channel ecosystem with deep expertise in helping customers accelerate data center transformation

Avnet Technology Solutions, the global IT solutions distribution leader and an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), and Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) recently marked their fifth anniversary of partnership in the data center market. Avnet has built and developed a community of highly specialized solution provider partners during this time that have supported Cisco through its entry into the data center server market and played an integral role in Cisco becoming one of the technology leaders in this space. In turn, this relationship has provided Avnet’s partners with access to innovative technologies to create next-generation data centers for their customers, especially through the use of Cisco-based integrated infrastructure systems.

In 2009, Cisco selected Avnet as its high-value specialty distributor in the U.S. and Canada because of its deep technical experience related to the data center and sophisticated integration capabilities. Avnet’s relationship with Cisco expanded to include Europe in 2010 and further increased with the addition of Latin America and the Caribbean in 2013.

“With the incredible pace of change, this is one of the most exciting times in the technology industry, and it has been a privilege to help Cisco penetrate the rapidly evolving data center market,” said Denny O’Connell, senior vice president and general manager, Converged and Data Solutions, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas. “Avnet has steadily built a strong partner community for Cisco in the Americas that has both the technical and consultative sales expertise required by customers in this specialized market segment. Avnet supports our partner community with a wealth of resources and unique technical integration capabilities that not only jump-started Cisco and our partners’ success in the first five years of the relationship, but laid a foundation for growth well into the future. We thank Cisco for the five-year partnership and look forward to our joint continued success in the future.”

One of the key ways that Avnet has been able to help Cisco and its partners profitably grow in this market is by developing a channel ecosystem and alliances to capitalize on the integrated systems market opportunity, which IDC forecasts to reach US$14 billion by 2017.1 Avnet has fostered deep relationships with complementary technology vendors, such as EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, NetApp and VMware, as well as Nimble Storage and SAP in the Americas, and Datacore and Veeam in EMEA. These relationships have empowered Avnet’s partners to be able to create complete solutions based on Cisco® server technology to help their customers improve productivity and profitability. These integrated systems capabilities have allowed Avnet to become a leading provider of Cisco’s SAP HANA appliances in the Americas and Europe.

In bringing these Cisco-based solutions to market, partners have utilized Avnet’s assembly and integration services. These services allow partners to quickly provide their customers with customized Cisco-based solutions that are fully tested, validated and integrated, allowing for faster delivery and implementation in customers’ data centers. Avnet has proven expertise in building Cisco-based integrated infrastructure solutions and holds a number of certifications, including the Cisco UCS® B-Series Authorized Configurator (UBAC) and Cisco UCS® C-Series Authorized Configurator (UCAC) certifications.

“We selected Avnet to help Cisco enter the data center market because of their proven track record in data center solutions and complex integration capabilities,” said Julie Hens, vice president, worldwide distribution sales, Cisco Systems. “Five years later we are thrilled with the success of this relationship, and Avnet has become one of Cisco’s fastest-growing technology distributors. We’ve been impressed with how quickly they’ve been able to build a true community of savvy Cisco data center partners that understand the nuances of serving these customers. Additionally, Avnet has helped Cisco to expand our ecosystem for integrated infrastructure systems and helped to pave the way to help us deliver our vision of tomorrow’s data center.”

Avnet’s ability to help Cisco successfully grow its data center business has been well recognized throughout the industry. As a result, Avnet has received multiple awards, including Cisco’s Global Distribution Partner of the Year in 2013 and 2014; Cisco’s Worldwide Distribution Data Center Distributor of the Year in 2012, 2013 and 2014; Cisco’s Data Center Distribution Partner of the Year, Americas in 2014; Cisco’s Data Centre Distributor of the Year in EMEA in 2013 and 2014; and Cisco’s Data Centre Distributor of the Year in Germany in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

“The data center market has become incredibly complex in the last five years driven by big data, cloud computing, mobility and the Internet of Things, and IT leaders are rapidly shifting to integrated infrastructure systems to accelerate data center transformation,” said Patrick Cronin, managing partner, Kovarus, a Cisco Premier Partner out of San Ramon, Calif. “Avnet has helped us masterfully navigate this market and profitably grow our business. We’ve collaborated with Avnet closely to develop the clear strategies, plans and roadmaps to address the incredible market opportunity with Cisco-based data center solutions. Today, we are proud to have not only helped our customers efficiently meet their business needs, but to also have recently been named to CRN’s 2014 Solution Provider 500 List.”
