PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Atos Origin and Sagem, a unit of Safran, have
won a contract worth around 80 million euros from the French government to
produce biometric passports, Le Journal du Dimanche reported, without citing its
source.
The companies are notably to supply 5,000 terminals to local town halls and
train local officials, the newspaper said, with the first biometric passports
due to be produced at the end of June.
Atos and Sagem won the contract in the face of competition from three rival
consortiums: Thales-Accenture, Capgemini-Sopra Group, and Bull-Zeltes.
