Arcadia University President Jerry Greiner announced the appointment of
Dr. Nicolette DeVille Christensen as the new Vice President and
Executive Director of Arcadia’s Center for
Education Abroad, effective July 1, 2008.
Arcadia University (www.arcadia.edu),
which is ranked second in the nation among master’s
universities for its percentage of undergraduate students who study
abroad, also offers study abroad opportunities to more than 3,000
college students a year from 300 colleges and universities across the
nation. The Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad offers more
than 100 programs around the world in 14 countries.
“Dr. Christensen’s
commitment to excellence in education abroad, as well as her proven
record of leadership and entrepreneurial talent in an international
context, will further strengthen our University mission of global
learning,” Greiner said. “Her
experience as a faculty member and her leadership in international
education will complement our institutional promise of providing
students with global perspectives, personal attention, and real-world
integrative learning experiences that prepare them to contribute and
prosper in the world.”
“Education abroad is an important academic
component in an undergraduate degree as our world becomes more diverse
and more complex,” Christensen said. “Ensuring
curricular options to serve the needs of U.S. students means that we
will both strengthen existing programs as well as develop new
opportunities for students.”
Christensen succeeds Dr. David Larsen, who will retire this summer from
full-time work after 20 years at the helm of one of the nation’s
largest providers of study abroad opportunities. She is the Executive
Director of Global Academic Management at New York University. She
previously served as Chair of the Business Management Department and
Chair of Study Abroad Programs at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.
Christensen also serves as an International Education Consultant with
organizations in London, Madrid, Dublin, Bonn, Berlin and Munich.
Christensen earned a Ph.D. in Leadership and Cultural Foundations from
the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an M.B.A. from the
University of Texas, and a B.S. in Business Administration from the
College of Saint Mary.
